How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Friends:
You don't want to be a social worker. You'll just get burned out, and there's no money in it.
How I responded:
Well, lots of social workers do get burned out. It can be a very stressful job! But if you find the right group of co-workers and an agency that is supportive of its workers, you can support each other through the stress. My best friends are co-workers that I have been through difficult times with. Also, the beauty of a Social Work degree is that you can do all sorts of different kinds of work: with different ages, focusing on different issues. You can change careers without more schooling.
