Life & Career Milestones

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

  • 1.

Started in the Navy at the USNA in Annapolis though decided not to pursue as a career.

  • 2.

Took a year in Israel upon departure to explore and grow.

  • 3.

Returned to school to study accounting followed by Big 8 (now Big 4-EY) employment. Pursued CPA.

  • 4.

Returned to school attending Wharton for my MBA upon departing job.

  • 5.

Relocated to the midwest due to spouse's desire to attend school in Madison, WI.

  • 6.

After departing from a larger accounting firm (Grant Thornton), opened a systems consulting/training practice, which led to joining a franchise group, which led to further entrepreneurial experiences.

  • 7.

Had been adjunct instructing and serving on boards for multiple years, ended up taking a full-time academic role, followed by getting a second Masters and Doctorate.

  • 8.

Continued entrepreneurial and educational endeavors. Some more successful than others. Now in South Carolina on a tenure track position and pursuing other business interests. Published LinkedIn book.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Family:

    Emotional and Financial Putdowns

  • How I responded:

As Henry Ford once said: 'If you think you can or you think you can't, you're right'

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • Made some "bad" financial decisions that led to bankruptcy. I put bad in quotes in that I have learned more from my failures than my successes which has helped me to learn and grow. The only true failure is not learning lessons from failures.
