My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
At age 14 I began working for a local Cardiologist as a file clerk. That experience sparked my desire to pursue a career in the medical field
2.
After High School graduation I attended the University of Buffalo and began the pre-med curriculum
3.
I received a D in physics 101. I was discouraged but I continued to take the prerequisites required to apply to medical school
4.
I worked three jobs (biology lab, medical office and a retail job at the mall on the weekends) while attending the University as a full time student
5.
Determined to graduate on-time, I switched my major to African American Studies at the start of my junior year. I graduated on time and re-entered the university as a nursing major the next fall
6.
I excelled in the nursing program (because it is what I love) and graduated earning the Ruth T McGorray Nursing Leadership Award.
7.
I was a dedicated charge nurse within 2 years of starting my nursing career, an evening supervisor at different hospital within 5 years and a Cardiac Nurse manager within 6 years.

Messages from Friends:
For all the years you spent in college you could've been a doctor.
How I responded:
