Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

My parents were both very naturally creative and we grew up with an artistic spirit in the house.

  • 2.

I went to community college for sculpture, but I realized I wanted to do something bigger than clay.

  • 3.

I transferred to ASU and jumped right into the architecture program and my first design studio.

  • 4.

I immediately loved design because there’s always an element of change in every new project you tackle.

  • 5.

I went to graduate school in Los Angeles and decided I’d found my new home.

  • 6.

I started working at Interior Architects here in downtown Los Angeles.

  • 7.

I stay engaged with a lot of my creative hobbies: right now I’m restoring a classic car with my dad!

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Teachers:

Maybe you’d be best suited to be a model builder, rather than an architect.

  • How I responded:

Roadblocks are real! I’ll always remember my third design studio class, when the teacher told me I’d be better suited to be a model builder. That could’ve crushed me, but I actually think it was good to hear—I don’t like to fail, so it refocused me on my work. Failure is just a part of success, so unless you’re hearing noise that awakens the realization that you actually don’t like what you’re doing, just use those words to motivate you to keep going.
