Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Friends:
You are too old to start going to college. What will you do with a doctorate? You should stay home with your kids.
How I responded:
I took some time to think about what I really wanted to do and made a commitment to myself that I would do it.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
No one in my family had gone to college so it was scary to do it. I read up on studying and preparing for college. I also took some remedial classes, so I could approach writing and math confidently. I also found supportive people to help me.
