Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
Why do you want to earn a Ph.D.? Why don't you become an elementary teacher?
How I responded:
Just do what you want to do, not what others say to do. Take the high road and be kind to others.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Others around me were not going to college but just working odd jobs. I worked and went to school until I felt like I was where I wanted to be.
