Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Parents:

I never thought you would be a good engineer.

  • How I responded:

I was so surprised by the comment that I never asked why- now I know that it doesn't matter. You can accomplish whatever you put your mind to. Create a plan, work the plan, add to the plan so you are continually challenging yourself and celebrate your accomplishments no matter how small they seem. Never be afraid to ask for help. The only silly question is the one not asked. Often times someone else has the same questions and will be so grateful you spoke up!

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • It was tough leaving my daughter in daycare and going back to work, but I really wanted a career. I was unsure that the daycare could care for my daughter. I spend Friday afternoons there getting to know everyone and realized that it would be okay.
