Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Myself:

I don't recall anyone telling me I couldn't do something. My family has always been my #1 supporter, especially my Mom. I think I am my own noise. I've always put a lot of pressure on myself to achieve excellence at everything I do.

  • How I responded:

My noise was probably influenced by others' expectations of me and my fear of disappointing them. The thing is that life is too short and unpredictable. Don't wait till next time or next year; live for yourself, do the things that feel right to you. My noise became insignificant when I lost my first daughter; things that were very important before were not anymore. I learned to view life in a completely different way, a better way I believe - without so much noise.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • Moved to the US for College and had no access to loans because I was an int'l student. My parents couldn't pay for all. I studied hard and worked as much as I was allowed (and more) and was able to get 2 scholarships and enough money to pay for it.
