How I responded to discouragement

Messages from Teachers:
You should just stop school with your master's degree...you don't need a PhD to do what you want to do.
How I responded:
I applied for my doctoral program anyway, and it has allowed me to work in a medical setting as a psychologist...I now realize that while I thought I wanted to be a doctor and work with children and families, what I really wanted was to help in a different way than medicine. So, I practice psychology with chronically ill children.
