Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

A Flight Attendant only pours drinks in the air. That's an easy job.

  • How I responded:

I had a passion for traveling and knew that being a Flight Attendant was the way to go. It is more than pouring drinks and making flights comfortable. If there is an emergency, we are the ones who help evacuate everyone from the aircraft. When I went for my interview I was nervous and thought "there's no way I am going to get hired.." There were hundreds of people there and many were Flight Attendants from other airlines and older than me. I was the youngest. I was 21. I did it!

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • I had to fix my car when I first started working and I didn't make a lot of money. I had to work a little extra to make up the difference.

  • I applied for financial aid and anything else that was available to help pay for my books and classes. I worked a full time job and went to school full time. Its a struggle but stay focused. It can be done!
