Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Parents:
You should follow your mother's footsteps and become a nurse.
How I responded:
My mom constantly nagged me about majoring in Nursing. She said that it's in demand, that I'd get a job right away, and that I'd be financially stable. I was never interested in nursing nor do I enjoy being in a hospital setting. I wasn't going to let her push me into something I didn't want to do despite its upsides. I just told her wanted to be happy, and that I can be successful in design by showing her things I created. Eventually, she became fully supportive of me and my aspirations.
