Life & Career Milestones
My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
Growing up, I was always tinkering, taking things apart, and building things.
2.
I began my college journey as a mechanical engineering student but shifted my focus and graduated with a degree in industrial engineering technology.
3.
I started my career working for an engine design and production company, and then moved on to work for a large publishing company.
4.
After getting married and starting a family, I stayed home with my kids for nine years.
5.
I spent that time trying to figure out what I wanted to do for a career that would allow me to stay close to home and prioritize family.
6.
I got an email looking for STEM professionals to transition into teaching—I hadn’t ever considered teaching but it sounded interesting and it would allow me to have the same schedule as my kids.
7.
I decided to pursue the opportunity and have been working as a middle school engineering and technology education teacher since!
8.
My career as a teacher has combined all of the things I enjoy: engineering and technology, creativity, and nurturing children.
Defining Moments
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
More than once, my presence and qualifications have been questioned by my colleagues. Despite those negative experiences, I've always had the mindset that if I prove to people that I'm good at what I do, then my gender and color won't matter.
