Advice for getting started
My dad also works at TEL. He's been here for 22 years and people really like him. While I don't feel like I have to work harder to prove myself, I do slightly feel like I need to live up to his reputation. It's pressure that I put on myself but I know that it's not that serious. I'll also sometimes feel like if I mess up, it'll change how people see my dad as well, but that's not true. If I mess up, it doesn't affect his image and if he messes up, it doesn't affect mine.

My path in life has been direct

I grew up in Austin, Texas.
2.
I come from a family of engineers—my grandfather, both of my parents, and my brother are engineers.
3.
In high school, I was interested in both engineering and musical theater but I decided to pursue engineering because I wasn’t as comfortable with the subjective nature of musical theater.
4.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in mathematics from the University of Evansville in Indiana.
5.
After graduating, it was difficult to find the right engineering position for me, so I actually worked as a retail manager.
6.
My dad, who works for Tokyo Electron Ltd., informed me that the company was looking for someone to fill a temporary role working with code that I had actually spent a lot of time on in college.
7.
That temporary part-time position ultimately led to my full-time position now as a research systems engineer.
